Metro in the UK: Free the imprisoned journalists



 
The representative of Metro Center in the UK called for the release of the imprisoned journalists, no journalists for writing opinions should be in Kurdistan Regional Government prisons. Their sentences should be lifted.

Chya Asaad, representative of Metro Center, spoke at an event organized in Birmingham to commemorate the 16th anniversary of the assassination of Sorani Mama Hama.

On Sunday, July 21, 2024, (Shubat 17th) Organization for Human Rights organized several activities in London, Glasgow, Birmingham, Manchester and Newcastle to commemorate the assassination of journalist Sorani Mama Hama.

In this action, the representative of Metro Center in the UK called for the release of the imprisoned journalists, no prisoners for writing opinions should be in prison, their sentences should be lifted.

"In cases of publication, writing, criticism, satire, cartoons, investigations and investigative reports, no security agency except the police can summon journalists, only by order of a judge,” he said "The government should take into account the reports of foreign and local organizations defending the rights of journalists and human rights, which are related to violations and deviations, and instead of responding, rejecting and denying, work to eliminate them.”

The activities began at 1 pm with the slogan of "Soran as the first martyr of the pen” in the presence of Kurds living in the UK.

The speeches of the family of martyr Soran, speeches of the organization were read by the organizers of the rally, a brief biography of martyr Soran and many other activities were presented.
