Dr. Aso Faraidun, a member of the Iraqi parliament, said the
amended bill on personal status, contrary to some articles of the Iraqi
constitution and international agreements and treaties that Iraq has signed.
July 31st, 2024, the team of Metro Center
welcomed (Dr. Aso Faraidun), Member of the Iraqi House of Representatives.
Firstly, the coordinator of Metro Center warmly welcomed Dr.
Aso Faraidun and praised his efforts and those of the members of the House of
Representatives who wanted the personal status law based on citizenship and
equality and don’t want sectarianism to dominate the laws.
Dr. Aso Faraidun, in detail highlighted the bill and some of
its articles that are contrary to some articles of the Iraqi constitution and
the international agreements and treaties that Iraq has signed, said: "Our
efforts will continue to implement the Iraqi Personal Status Law No. 188 of
1959.”
He said that there is a widespread protest of citizens,
human rights activists and civil movements in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region for
this bill, which supports our efforts.
Finally, Dr. Aso Faraidun appreciated the efforts of Metro
Center to monitor the situation of freedom of expression and journalism and
said, "I have been monitoring your work since the establishment and I consider
myself a member of your team.”
