Metro’s reports are documented for Kurdistan Center




Metro Center’s team welcomed Dr. Hardi Mahdi Mika, Director of the Kurdistan Center for Documentation and Academic Research; Dr. Yasin Taha, a university professor and prominent researcher in the Kurdistan Region, and presented 13 of Metro’s annual reports on the situation of press freedom.

First, the coordinator of Metro Center warmly welcomed and thanked and supported the center that during their six years of work have tried to collect, sell and preserve Kurdistan’s historical documents and archive them using new technology.

"We are pleased that you don’t consider the protection of historical documents as putting them in a dark room which no one can access them, but you have both protection and soft tools to access the documents,” he said.

The meeting was an opportunity to listen to the opinions of both friends and supporters of Metro Center, about Network 19, in this regard, they presented some important points and comments to enrich its programs.

Metro’s team also submitted 13 of Metro’s annual press freedom reports to their center.

The guest delegation thanked Metro Center for their warm welcome and thought for documenting their reports in Kurdistan Center and hoped that Metro and Network 19 will develop and succeed.

Kurdistan Center for Documentation and Academic Research was established in 2018, is one of the institutions of University of Sulaymaniyah, which works on historical archives including: documentation, collection of oral history, Kurdistan manuscripts, building a digital library, sales and research, manuscripts and documents department.

UNESCO has declared June 9 as World Archives Day since 2007, which aims to raise public awareness of the importance of archives and activate initiatives to preserve them, as historical documents are considered inevitable witnesses in the narrative of past events.
