On April 10th-11th, 2025, in Erbil, Metro Center participated in a roundtable organized by
the Swedish Diakonia Organization, which was dedicated to strengthening the capacity of Iraqi civil society organizations in international law.
Founded in 1966, Diakonia works globally with 350 local partner organizations in 25 countries, with long-term projects aimed at making a difference in their communities.
The roundtable was attended by some of the heads of civil society organizations, constructive discussions on international law and the role of civil society organizations and their embodiment with daily work were held, lawyers from the International Law Center conducted the discussions and (Tamooz Organization) supervised the activity.
The topics of discussion included strengthening the capacity of organizations in international law and their practice in advocacy programs and processes and obstacles to this process, the relationship between national law and international law and the duty of organizations in analyzing which articles are similar and which are different, advocacy for human rights through international law, advocacy within international mechanisms. The role of civil society organizations in implementing these laws in their daily work.
