NRT reporter Karzan Tariq was arrested by security forces on a journalistic case in Sulaimani on Tuesday, November 26th, NRT reported.
Metro Center learned that Karzan went to renew his driver's license today. They told him that he had an arrest warrant in the computer department. They kept him in the office until a security force arrived and transferred him to Sulaimani security.
Metro contacted the Sulaimani security forces, and they told us they would hand him over to the police. He was then transferred to Azmar police station and is now awaiting a judge's decision to release him on bail.
Metro demands that the NRT reporter be released on bail and that his case be dealt with according to the provisions of the Journalism Law, not another law, the issue on which Karzan was arrested is related to his work, not anything else.
We reject this treatment of journalists in cases related to their work and keeping them in prison for several hours, He should have been released on bail.
