Sulaimani, January6th, 2025: Metro Center welcomes the decision of the Kurdistan
Regional Court of cassation to cancel the three-year prison sentence of
journalist Sulaiman Ahmad and congratulates his team of lawyers.
Nariman Ahmad, the lawyer of journalist Sulaiman Ahmad, told

he stressed, "The Court of Cassation has ordered the release of journalist
Sulaiman Ahmad”, "We will start working on the procedures for his immediate
release". "The court of Cassation had no evidence for the charges, so
it decided to cancel the sentence," he said.
Sulaiman Ahmad, a reporter of the Arabic section of Rojnews
media agency, was arrested on October 25th at Vishkhapor checkpoint
after attending his father's funeral in West Kurdistan. His lawyers were only
allowed to visit him after 211 days.
On July 29th, the journalist was sentenced to
three years in prison under Article 1 of the Kurdistan Regional Parliament No.
21 of 2003 on charges of being a member of the Democratic Union Party (PYD). "The
decision did not meet the requirements for a fair trial and we demand the
annulment of the decision," Metro said.
Metro Center welcomes the decision of the Kurdistan Regional
Court of Cassation and is pleased to cancel the three-year prison sentence for
journalist Sulaiman Ahmad and congratulates the lawyer (Nariman Ahmad) and his
colleagues in the team of lawyers in this case (Lawyer Bashdar Hassan, Lawyer
Rebaz Wasu).
Metro once again calls on the courts not to be used as a
factor of pressure and revenge against journalists and freedom fighters, in
cases of freedom of the press and freedom of expression, the conditions must be
provided for a fair trial.
