The suspension of the broadcast of Channel 8, and the
channel's official page, is completely contrary to international standards for
media freedom, we demand that these obstacles end as soon as possible and that
the channel resume normal broadcasting.
Channel 8 Media Agency, announced, their broadcast on
Nilesat and Yahsat and the channel's official Facebook page were suspended
during the broadcast of an interview with Murat Karayilan, a member of the
PKK's Executive Committee.
At 17:00 pm today, Channel 8 within the framework of its
media duty and professional work, broadcasted the PKK's official message on
Abdullah Ocalan's call through Murat Karayilan, a member of the PKK's Executive
Committee.
Half an hour after the interview was broadcast, the channel
was suspended on Nilesat, Yahsat and Channel 8's Facebook page.
Therefore, we at Metro Center regard these obstacles as a
political decision and punishment against the channel and demand that the
channel return to normal broadcasting as soon as possible and the official page
of the channel be handed over to its owner.
Channel 8, since October of 2024, has consistently conveyed
the views of all parties on the process in Turkey on a daily basis. It has also
worked impartially and professionally.
